Myhana’s trip to China

Coming the last week of May, I have an opportunity to go to Beijing and Shanghai in China for two weeks with six of my fellow classmates.
For four years now, I have been studying Mandarin; learning how to read, write, and speak the language. During this trip I will be attending classes at Shanghai High School and living with a Chinese family, all while experiencing the total culture and lifestyles of China with six of my the people in my Chinese class.
I am hoping that this trip will affect me in a positive way; as a benefit one would hope. A trip to China would enable me to get gather a more in depth look, as well as a new perception of how different people live; more specifically, people on the other side of the world. Not only will I be able to practice my abilities to speak and understand the language, but I will also enable myself to become more familiar with how the outside “western” world has affected a country with centuries of tradition.
Some day, when it is my time to be a part of the work force, I hope to use this experience as a guideline for how China works. I greatly enjoy learning a language that is not like any other and hope to continue this enjoyment by adding the element of physical experience.
The total cost of this trip is $2500 and I would like to ask my family members for help with the costs. Asking a favor that is this important to myself of my family would not be justified if I did not promise something in return. I would like to promise a presentation depicting what I’d done during the trip. If you have any more questions, I would be glad to supply answers.
